Setting: From New York to LA
I would be remiss if I discussed Hotel Dusk: Room 215 without mentioning the titular hotel itself, but Kyle Hyde's journey begins far from it, on the other side of the United States in New York City.
At the beginning of the game, we see that Hyde works for the NYPD in the 89th Precinct. It's a very noir-ish setting, with dark buildings towering against a sepia-toned sunset. After Hyde's partner Bradley turns on him during an investigation gone awry, he disappears, and Hyde is determined to track him down. He begins working for Red Crown, a door-to-door sales company that puts Hyde's detective abilities to use as a side business to find hidden items.
Next on the docket for Hyde is the inimitable Hotel Dusk. We can assume it's in a fairly rural location outside of LA, as Hyde travels through the desert to get to it. It probably serves as a stopping point for people traveling by car between more populated locations.
The unassuming hotel is plagued by rumors that it's haunted, which has dissuaded potential guests as well as employees. It's a two-story brick building with only 10 guest rooms, a lobby, kitchen, restaurant with a bar, and roof access. In an effort to attract customers, the owner has given each room an uplifting name, such as "Success" and "Bravery". Hyde lands the coveted "Wish" room, where supposedly your wishes will come true upon spending a night there.
Hotel Dusk is where the bulk of the story takes place, and you'll be spending your time getting to know its guests and employees while solving puzzles and unraveling its mysteries...
